My name is Douglas Wertz and I am the band director at Glenview Middle School. I received a Master of Music in Music Education degree from Converse College and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I moved to South Carolina from Pennsylvania 14 years ago. I began my teaching career in South Carolina at the Montessori School of Anderson teaching Physical Education, as well as teaching individual and small group instrumental lessons.
I then taught general music for 2 years at McLees, Whitehall, & Nevitt Forest Elementary schools in Anderson School District 5. Then, I was one of two band directors at McCants Middle School in Anderson District 5 for 4 years, and later became the band director at Glenview Middle School. I have been the band director at Glenview Middle School for 8 years since it opened in 2011. Musically, I enjoy playing several different instruments, but my major instrument is the trumpet. I play the trumpet with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, I perform at several churches in the area, & I perform several different gigs in the area.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing with my little guy, playing music, playing ice hockey, lifting weights, running, hiking, camping, & fishing.
