The T.L. Hanna High School Jazz Ensemble was established in 1968 by Ray
doughty, former State Supervisor of Music for the South Carolina
Department of Education. This ensemble is one of the oldest public school
groups of its kind in the State of South Carolina. The Jazz Ensemble has a
rich and varied history and has appeared at the IAJE (International
Association of Jazz Educators) National Conference in Nashville, TN, the
Greenville Channel 4 Golden Apple Awards Program, Wachovia Main Street
Jazz in Columbia, Greenville Main Street Jazz, the Anderson Soiree, and
numerous University and College clinics in South Carolina, North Carolina
and Georgia. The Jazz Ensemble has participated in the South Carolina
State Jazz Ensemble Festival at Newberry College for 21 consecutive years
and received 17 straight superior ratings holding the state record for the
highest ratings given at this event. All of this in addition to regular
schedule of approximately 20 performances per year including formal
concerts, school assemblies, dinners, charity events and street festivals.
Many members have been recognized as outstanding soloists and have
received IAJE performance awards with at least one member having been
selected as outstanding soloist for the past 11 years. Many former members
are active jazz players and teachers today. |

Band meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Membership
