It's
not just a half time show: Actually,
the half time show is just a dress rehearsal for the band. If you are a
new band parent or someone interested in learning more about the band,
this page is for you. Each year, the
TL Hanna Band (and others throughout the States and the country) learn new
music and drills (marching routines) so that they can compete with other
bands in their area. There are competitions on most Saturdays from mid Sep
through October. If you have watched the band perform at football games in
prior years, you probably noticed that each week the band plays the same
song, however, each week they add more movements to the routine. These
routines are very complex and require a lot of practice. That is why the
band starts out with two full weeks of band camp prior to the start of
school. At band camp, the students
learn the marching routines and music for the fall show. Some of the
students are totally new to band, so these students must first learn the
basics of marching. The photos below show field placement and band
director Bass, demonstrating proper foot placement. Marching
Band is much more than a half time show. It takes many hours of hard work
by the students, staff and volunteers. So, the next time you see the band
playing at the football game, remember, it's not just a half time show,
it's so much more.
